Just differences in the romanization of the characters:
jitsu
This is given in the dictionary as the most common variation.
jutsu
This is supposed to better represent the sound of the word in Japanese.

I take mixed martial arts and weapons. I can do double nun-chuck, single, and bo staff

This mixed martial arts class involves the following: Kicking and punching. When you find yourself at a disadvantage there, you can get a clinch and take them down somehow (my favorite being the hip throw) and you can get submissions or more advanced people can strike from there. But I get submissions. It has advanteges of all different types of arts. And I can do the looking cool with weapons. Soon enough, I will get to learn short stick hopefully. Then way later, maybe sword.

And belt rank: I do not believe in belt rank, although it does exist at my school, but I believe in level of skill, not representation of such. But in case you want to know, it is orange.

Bow staff... Its just called a bo.... and short stick is called a jo, or a sho-jo, depending on how short it actually is....

My dad goes to secret sword classes on sunday, and they use live blades (means there sharp as a dimond tip knife I use for cutting plastic...).
On friday, i go to a sparing class, we wear no gear, and waile on each other for 1.5 hours. I really think a lot of the martial arts school need to change, there is a huge school that puts on promotion shows... they call it the blackbelt x-stravagansa, all the ydo is flashy things, and at my DOjo, one thing hasn't changed in forever, you get your belt when you've throughleyearned it. Only thing i can't do is all the pushups :(, i'm to lasy, and just grew, so its kinda awkward for me right now. But an upside is I have a 4 pack from doing 300+ pushups a week :)

Short sticks and jos are different. Jos are wielded like swords and are around half your height. You wield two short sticks at a time and use double attacks. Sticks, not staves. And a bo staff can be called a bo for short or bo staff. oh, and where I go to, you cannot get your belt until you are skilled enough, but if you are skilled enough and have not been at that rank long enough, no promotion for you.

You are wrong. Jos arn't weilded like a sword, where you go they do things weird. It isn't a stick, its a staff. A stick is coverd in bark, and is offten found on a tree. As I said, a "short stick" is called a Jo, or a SHO-JO depending on the length. Your school sounds kind of unperfesonal... Also it makes no sense to attack with two "sticks" at the same time... think about it...

What I said is that the jo is a staff. When I said "Short stick" I was not referring to Jo. I know what a Jo is and I know what a short stick. Short sticks are different from Jos.

As much as I like weapons class, it really has no application in today's world. Seriously, when are you going to get jumped/attacked and have your bokken on you? The only practical weapon to carry around would be the rattan nunchaka, but it's outlawed.

Which leads me to my next point; should martial artists be allowed to carry their weapon with them if one is deemed responsible/experienced in judgement enough to have that weapon?

I practiced tae kwon do for a year and 2 months aprox. , my record was 5-0, all gold. last belt i reached was green (4th or fith rank) and my KO record was 7.4 seconds. Money for the monthly membership was becoming more difficult to get , and unfortunatly i had to cut my career short. i see my master every once in a while and he always asks me when im coming back and i tell him when i get the money

I use foam nunchucks, but I do not want to dent myself. When using double, I hit myself occasionally. I could carry a pair with me though. A bo, no way, you will never have a bo or a jo with you ever. But short sticks, if you have a bag, you could put a pair in there.

Once again, you didn't read it right I said a jo, or a show-jo is a "short stick" depending on the length. I love nunchuck, I use real wood ones, and i never hit myself.

wow guys...

jo, usually around 3 feet long, compared to other staves, it's TYPICALLY wielded simmilarly to a katana, especially in styles like aikido. (and yes, some aikido does do jo routines)

Short staves, staffs, sticks, nitan-bo, or anything of the like are typically wielded in two's, ala, escrima/arnis, okinawan kobudo, or the like where these weapons are present.

Now if you guys are martial artists you shouldn't be bickering so much, you should realize that other people do things differently than you do, and that you can just accept that not all schools of thought use one short staff alone, or other schools believe that using two at a time isn't professional.

Now for the record, I have trained in several martial art styles, including; boxing, muay thai, Carlson Gracie Jiu jistu, Ninpo budo taijitsu (bujinkan ninjitsu), Arnis, Kali, Kodokan Judo, Japanese Jiu jitsu, Aiki Jujitsu, Matayoshi Kobudo, Wado-Ryu Karate, Goju Ryu Karate, Shorin Ryu Karate, and Kyokushin Karate.

CTfan, weapons training is more of a concepts things in todays world, you see back when most of these styles were created they utilized whatever they had as a weapon, today we have to adapt, instead of nunchaku use a belt, instead of tekko using a lighter/whatever you have, your instructor should really touch base on these kinds of things instead, if your instructor doesn't it has no merit, it's like teaching an empty hand kata/form/whatever and not teaching its applications, then you're mearly learning japanese robot line dancing if you do that.

That's exactly the correlation I'm trying to draw. It had a use then, but today, it represents the martial arts as a link to our past warriors and mastering our own self-discipline. Weapons practice also teaches pride and patience; now instead of wielding an appendage directly as in empty-hand, you now have to wield a foreign object that you must accept as a part of you to TRULY use it. This philosophy can be placed into many aspects of everyday life.

I took some Shorin Ryu Karate classes for a while. Learned a lot. Like how to count in japanese, the names of the kicks, punches, etc. But most essentially he showed us how to take an attacker down enough to get away. Funny thing is, 3/4 the class was old grannys  Even with all the martial arts knowledge in the world I don't think they could put up much of a fight.
Anyways, I only stopped because my family got tired of it so I didn't have a ride to get there.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Walker Texas Ranger style. Those roundhouse kicks are lethal! :P
