i'm working pretty hard on finishing my GameBoy64 (it's going very smoothly so far, looks like i have one of the tough N64s this time ) and now it's time to give the internel controller a switch that turns it on and off. i'm using a dip switch for all the little switching stuff and i used up all but pair of pins so i need to use just 1 switch to turn off the controller (it has 3 wires). does anybody know for a FACT that switching the ground turns it off so you can use another controller on the same plug (i'm not gonna risk breaking anything)? if so, that would be great but if not, i came up with a diagram that switches off the power and ground with 1 switch using a transistor. here it is:
assuming the controller takes around 30ma (that's a complete guess), what value should the resistor be?
if you want to use that circuit thing i would suggest using a MOSFET rather than a BJT. FETs make much better switches...you could just use a 1k resistor to the gate of the FET for protection.
My only question would be...if you're switching the power on or off, why do you need to switch ground also?

yeah, just switch the +ve wire and you'll be fine.
if you were using a FET in that situation your resistor just needs to be "there". something like 1K or something would probably do fine. its not something you need to have really exact. (i dont think).
(instead of using transistors, they also have these things called "DPST" switches )
