screen size

If you're making a portable you probably need something to watch it on. (Unless you want to guess what's happening in the game, but I wouldn't advise that) Anyway, this forum is your "Hacking a pocket TV/screen" one-stop solution. Share your experiences and knowledge here.

screen size

Post by watermelon »

im thinking about making a mega drive (im from the UK) portable, but i am unsure as to what screen to use. obviously i want good quality and as big as i can realisticaly go. but how big is realistic? i dont want a screen that will suck my batterys dry in 10 minutes even if it is an excellent screen.

the main problem is power draw, so i was wondering if you guys could post you screen size and its power draw (or close estimate) so we could build a small catalouge of useable screens for portablisers.

also at what size do screens become too big or too small? i dont have any experience, but i im sure a 1.5" screen would be too small for me to be comfortable, and a 4" would be massive overkill for a retro portable.

what do thee think?

I think hip gear screens are 3.5 inches, I'm not sure how much power they use.

EDIT: I have been corrected, they are 2.5 in.

I am using an LED modded Pocket tv. A casio ev680. Got mine from ebay.

I strongly recomend you pick up ben's book, You can get it from the UK amazon, It will tell you the power draw of all the components.

What are you using for the genesis part? I am using a modded Radica.
