Case Ideas

Anyone have any suggestions for building a case?
I have a 7' widescreen DVD player LCD thats almost the exact same dimensions as the N64 mobo, I was thinking of going with a shape sort of like Marshall's but i can't do any sort of advance molding in my Apartment.

how about frankencase? use the N64 case as the body and the screen case on top of that (as flat as you can make it) and the controller halfs sticking out of the sides. kinda like handhelddc's:

it's cheap, easy, and looks eally good if you do it right.

Well, I was looking for something along the lines of more symmetrical, yeah it may be easy to do, but I want something that looks professional, so that when I go on a 6 month deployment, people will ask me where i bought it.

then how about cut some styreen (or however you spell it) to make it kinda like SifuF's? his looks really professional.

Or, do a case mod like me and marshall. It's pretty sweet, and ends up quite symmetrical. Plus, it's quite inexpensive. You'll be needing a dremel or pneumatic grinder to clean out the insides, though.

Personally, I don't like the whole "sheet plastic, bent aluminum" thing. The results are usually quite nice, but from personal experience, cutting the sheet plastic is damn near impossible to do by hand down to exact measurements, and bending the aluminum is not exactly the most "fun" job in the world. Hope this helps.

PFT! The sheet metal/plexi is the easiest way to go! Especially the plexi part.

Well, I did this back last year, when I was completely clueless and tried to make a portable from Ben's book, and it recommends using x-acto. But still, jigsaw is kind of common sense on my part.....

I was kidding too; personally, I thought the sarcasm was DRIPPING off that post, but I guess not...thanks to you, XFactor, I've realized my mistake and added the proper sarcasm markings!

Okay, now to get this thread back on topic:
If you don't do a case mod or styrene/aluminum case, why not try using a project box from, say, RadioShack? It'll have a very symmetrical feel, and look factory if your cuts are clean. Plus, it's cheap (the most expensive one is like $10). What say you?

If you cut the plexi with a circular saw, it's extremely perfect. When you use a jigsaw, you actually have to... aim. With practice, it comes easy.
