WTTF: Windows XP home Edition Disc w/ serial Number

Hello,

As you may know my laptop died, and i nee to re-install windows XP on the thing. Name your price, you could make a disc image and send me the disc the image. or Ship me the regular disc.

Shouldn't you already have a serial number from the old install?

I believe this is very close to warez. It's illegal to make a copy of the disc and give away the serial number. It is illegal to sell your copy of XP, UNLESS the seller removes the software from their computer.

Yeah, it is illegal, but the badness is lessened because it is stealing from Microsoft, Bill has plenty of money in my opinion.

Plus, the XP disk's serial number doesn't allow it's OS to be on more than 1 PC at a time.

If it's an XP copy that needs to be activated via network, Microsoft would know quite easily.
"Hmmm... this PC's stats don't match the other one's at all. That's odd."
Just go buy it or use Windows 2000.

You have to activate Windows XP via internet or telephone. If you don't avtivate it within a period of 30 days after the install it will refuse to boot until you do activate it. After you activate it, that serial number is no longer valid for another activation (unless it has a license for more then one user).

It will stop working after an amount of time PLUS you have to call M$ to make it work.

Also, you need the sticker on the back of the PC case for it to be legal.

Just buy a copy from a store.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but isn't it only nesecary for the COA to be attached to the PC if it's an OEM copy?

That's right, only OEM copies have the COA on the PC. Non-OEM ones have actual certificates. Non-OEM corporate copies do not require that you activate with Microsoft either. But still, this is a warez thread.
