Possibly Fried?

Post by chris_g_navy »

Ok, I have my N64 wired for battery use right now. Wires are all connected to the correct places, nothing is loose.
I havent got one of the TI dc converters, so i tried making one on my own, the 64 would power on for about 15 seconds, then shut off with blinking red LED. So, i bought a 12v - 3v Car charger, wired it in, and now the 64 wont even power on. I get a steady red LED, and the screen shows a bunch of wavy lines.
I'm using a 7" portable DVD player screen rated for 9v, i have a 9.6v 1600mAH battery. I tried hooking the 64 up to a regular tv while on battery power and still nothing shows up on screen.
Any help would be appreciated

sounds like the dc-dc convertor you made can't supply enough curent and your N64 requires more than 3v (mine does, some don't). either that or your N64 is dead.

ok, i hope its the first thing, the reason i thought it might not be fried is because the red LED still came on steady when i applied power to it.
I'll buy some part from radioshak when i get back next friday.

When the N64 is dead, the LED still comes on. In fact, it can easily be mistaken with the cartrage slot being incorectually wired or the having the expansion pak in backwards. you only know it is dead when you try everything and nothing works. And even then, sometimes the N64 is only sleeping, that is, try it a week later and see if it works. I think this has to do with a breaker needing to be reset
nope... can't think of anything I could possibly want to put in my Signature Block...
