Battery pack

Hey all, Got a techie question: In preparation to build a Portable PS2, i've begun looking at batteries. We have one here at work (I work at Comp USA), that I think would provide enough power to give me a couple hours on battery, but I'm no electrician (plus I like getting a second opinion on stuff.) anyways, the battery is an Universal battery pack for Laptops from APC. Basically it's a big battery with a cord that plugs into the Laptop. Can it be adapted to work with a PS2 and a screen? You Would probably make a voltage regulator. You can find countless tutorials on these forums.

you should first find out the voltage and mah of the batter pack

it is a slim 3000mah 15-20V WAY to much voltage, WAY to little Mah, WAY to much money. I would go with this sweet battery if you plan to spend even near that much http://batteryspace.com/index.asp?PageA ... rodID=2220 it is 7200mah and 11.1V easily regulatable to whatever voltage you need, and 7.2 Ah will give you HOURS upon HOURS of play, and it doesn't look TOO huge either. This one is cheaper than that compusa battery anyway, by a whole $50 almost. In short, that battery is overpriced and would be a hssle to mess with.
EDIT: the battery that I showed you also weighs less than 2/3 what that compusa battery weighs.

its a 60wh battery, and wh is all that matters in the end. the one you showed is roughly 60wh too, they are about the same.

the one from compusa includes all that plastic in the weight, it would probably aslo weigh about the same once you have stipped it down.

the one from batteryspace IS cheaper for sure (unless hes getting an employee discount from comusa), but it dosent include a led status indicator either.

its also interesting to note that although batteryspace shows a 6-cell pack in the picture, what you are getting is a NINE cell pack. ive seen these individual cells up close, that thing is huge. also, even though they say it weighs 11 ounces, if you follow the link to a single cell, it weighs 1.64 ounces.... 1.7x9 = 15 so... theres a bit of a discrepancy there.

each pack has its pros an cons, and i wouldnt say that either of them is good or bad for a portable. its up to you to decide now, based on dimensions (the compusa one is flat, the batteryspace one is an 8" long cylinder), and price which one best suits your needs. the answer may even end up being "neither". theres other batteries out there.
