Are you f'ing kidding me? I really hope you are, I'm not saying public school is good. But can you really be serious that you are a year ahead of public school. Have fun buying your grades I mean thats cool . I know understand why you think the way you do. I personnally believe that you are wrong in this case about it. If you want to talk more about it pm me cause I dont want the mods to have to clean this thread out as well.

I could probably pass the A+ certification test with my eyes closed... but that's what I get for using computers for at least as long as some of you have been alive.)

I don't really care what my GPA is, especially since I'm already taking college classes and I'm done with high school next Friday. (no I'm not quitting... I'm in 12'th grade. Graduation! woohoo! )

So listen to this: I'm not saying this applies to all private and public schools, there are some EXCELLENT public schools out there I know, I almost went to one, but then changed my mind.

So: in 8th grade, I went to a private school, made good grades, etc. Nearly everyone in my school graduated and went to their favorite private high school, including me. It's a good school, I wouldn't say a whole year ahead of a public school, but fairly advanced. Anyways, there were one or two kids in my 8th class who were pulling C's and D's and didn't get into any private highschools. They went to the public school they were zoned for. Now, both are taking the most advanced courses possible, and pulling A's and B's. What is that?

Another example, around the end of junior year a lot of kids leave our highschool to go to public highschools. In the state I live in, if you make the top 10% of your class in a public highschool, you automatically get in to any state university. So a lot of OK students at my school leave and spend their senior year getting a 4.5GPA at the public school down the road.

AGAIN: I'm not saying this applies to ALL public schools, just where I live this is true. I'm not saying I'm special or better because I go to a private school. And stop with the "buying grades" crap. Honestly. My school has at least as much if not more homework and assignments than my "public school friends" do. But really, don't degrade private schools for whatever reasons you might have. From the way you speak, it seems as if you've never visited one.

My school district didn't do any sort of gifted program after elementary school, but there were advanced classes in certain subjects in middle and high school.

In elementary school I was tested for the gifted program in 2nd 3rd and 4th grade (it determined if you entered it the following year.) I always tested high enough, but my class had an abnormally high number of kids that tested high enough to get in so they had a sort of lottery to determine who got in. I was never picked in the lottery

I didn't know this at the time, but I found out a few years later that they had held a hand full of slots open in the gifted program for kids that actually did poorly in school and often fell behind in classes. The thinking was that being with the gifted kids would get the slower kids to catch up, it never worked.

My 5th grade year my school decided to try an even better experiment, take all the kids that had tested high enough to get into the gifted program and didn't get in because there weren't enough spots open in the class (which was about 5 of us) and putting us in the remedial class, using the same thinking that we would help get the kids in the class to learn faster. This also didn't work. In fact, it caused those 5 of us to become disruptive to the rest of the class because we would always finish the work quickly and have nothing to do while the rest of the kids were still trying to work, eventually they brought in a couple of computers for us and put some games on them so we would have something to do.

The sad thing is that if the slow kids they had put into the gifted program had instead been put into the remedial class where they belonged, the few of us that belonged in the gifted program could have easily been put into the gifted program.

I then spent the rest of my middle and high school years in AP and honors classes.

My class' valedictorian (he takes all IB/AP classes, and has a perfect 4.0 GPA unweighted, weighted is 5.3 or something) cannot type worth a damn. If it was not for spellcheck, he would have worse grades than I (23 or 22 in my class atm, and sinking with this quarter, but since only semester grade counts, I think I can get 20 by the end of the year).

Your valedictorian has a 5.3? My graduation year ('04) our valedictorian had a weighted GPA of like six-point-something. It was sick. My school offered plenty of AP classes, and my weighted GPA was like 4.14, 3.89 unweighted. All that, and I was still 50th in my class! Of course, in a graduating class of 1,036 that was still in the top 5%... Sometimes going to the largest high school in Oklahoma had its drawbacks...

AP classes were pretty cool. When I started college, they gave me 21 hours worth of credit! Mahvelous... I haven't had to take a single English class or history class since I graduated!

Yep, same here. I've found that to work on stuff you don't want to do, there are a few steps you have to take in advance to get started. First of all, unplug your internet connection. Period. Next, make yourself some tea or something. In the meantime, just tell yourself "I'm gonna do it, I'm gonna do it" and think of it as a way to relax and type up a paper, not a way to work.

Then again, my case is fairly mild, so that may not work so well for you. Either way, feel free to send me a PM if you want similar advice for something else

I pretty much BSed my way through both the Software and Hardware A+ courses. So really the classes and certifications don't test your intellegents, it test your general knowledge of hardware and Winodws (they don't talk about OS X or any other OS much). I have yet to take the certification test as they cost about $100, and so I'm a little worried about wasting money on failing the class. Just so you know the Hardware part does ask silly questions like "What is the IRQ for the Serial port?" I know that you can find practise tests online but I haven't looking for any.

I was in an "Enrichment" group in Year 7 for smart kids, but that was the only year they ran it

I go to a bog standard inner city school, well its all that badm there are worse in my area that i could have gone to, but if you look at it this way, about half the year (my year) taking exams are expected C's

I aiming for A's and i might even get an A* if i really try

all will be revealed soon, i have my first (of 18 ) exams on monday....


Also could someone explain to me the US grade system because all this talk of GPA's is confusing me

im a little smarter than average
im in honors bio, and im in a sophmore geometry class as a freshman i cant say i do great in these classes though, i will probablly get a C because i was copulate around in the beginning of this quarter and got a 5 on a quiz i retook it though and almost got a perfect score, and in bio i can only get an A if i do his 10 point extra credit that are added to your average every quarter project/powerpoint thing.

lol @ the above poster. Yeah whats with this, what comes down to it is, would you say your smarter than one another because I know a fair amount of people who have more than 5 times the common sence of some of the posters here. As well as creativity sense of humour... the list goes on, if you want to get technical, just post your iq and argue about who administered, where it was done was it biased etc.

So far, the smartest person I have talked to on this forum would be kurt. Not just because he can help me with certain chemistry lab's etc. But he is also a down to earth kinda guy.
