Other sources of 3.5" LCDs like that used in the nPod?

If you're making a portable you probably need something to watch it on. (Unless you want to guess what's happening in the game, but I wouldn't advise that) Anyway, this forum is your "Hacking a pocket TV/screen" one-stop solution. Share your experiences and knowledge here.

Other sources of 3.5" LCDs like that used in the nPod?

Post by scherzo »

I have to admit, 3.5" is a perfect size for a NOAC based NES portable. I used a Hip Gear in the initial designs for my NESp's case, but the screen looks so dinky in a portable that needs to be at least as wide and tall as an NES cart.

So I like Ben's screen, but I just can't agree with the $127 price tag at AEI Components. For a little more I can get a 17" LCD monitor for my computer. Does anyone know of cheaper places? Of course I'm going to hit Google right now. I just thought someone would have some ideas. Thanks.

ebay came up with nothing exceptional, just similarly priced commercial LCDs.
I don't like forum signatures.

What about portable tv's? $127 is a lot of money for a 3.5" screen.

I found a 3.5" LCD at http://www.purdyelectronics.com/product ... tmonit.cfm for $70 that says it's NTSC and PAL compatible. But the datasheet is a bit confusing on how to hook it up. Any ideas anyone?

Hey legoboy!

On page 3, it shows the pinouts. Important pins are Red Input, Green Input, and Blue Input. It looks like it has some cool features such as Video Rotation.

EDIT: And the Pink wire is Hot (+) and the White wire is Cold (-) - For the powering of the backlight.

The backlight runs off of AC voltage, so it uses the general terminology for it. The positive line is generally called live or hot, and the return path is usually neutral or cold.

More on that (in terms of electrical outlets): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Domestic_A ... nd_sockets

Thanks for finding that, but the resolution is pretty low, even just to play NES on it. It's 160x234. The NES is 256x224.

What is the model of screen in the PSone?

Post by Robotron »

Who makes the PSone screen, not the complete module, but the actual screen itself. Did sony make it? or did they, as i assume, buy them from some chinese manufacturer?

if so, why do't we just pool our resources and buy a wholesale lot.

Sony, and they are discontinued.

Samsung made the actual screen module (LCD, backlight, and metal case). It was part of the WiseView line, but as Skyone said it's discontinued. Not sure who made the control boards, but I kind of doubt that Sony made those themselves.
