Controller Hacking Thread

Have you ever gotten confused when hacking your N64's controller? I know I have, and it led to a fired to hell N64 (I fried 3). Here is a guide of what wires go where and how they match up to the controller plug and stuff.

Here are a few more tips when hacking an N64 controller:

Don't cut any leads unless you know where they go and how to rewire them.

Wobbly joystick replacements are available. They cost a little extra, but are well worth the comfort.

Most 3rd party controllers use potentiometers rather then the electronics of the Nintendo brand. This means it can be replaced by a PS1 or PS2 joystick.

Only keep the bare essentials. N64s are big enough, and so are the controllers, so getting rid of the parts you don't need (L-button, D-pad) will save space.

why would you have to smash your plug? just use your multimeter to check certain color wires for continuity through the controller port pins

And this is basically my thread (on old PS) reworded and with some new info. But why not just contribute your knoledge to BenWiki?

Which once again shows that Fanboy really shouldn't be making these things, especially if they aren't correct.

that's better. what i really need is those same pinouts but on the controller PCB. i forgot what order they were in when i desoldered them
