Best Free Website hosting?

• At least 50mb of webspace
• Subdomain (none of that freakin' long directory name crap)
• Upload with FTP
• No ads/no popup ads (banners are fine)

I guess my needs are fairly simple. And yes, I got those bullets from charmap.

I think 250free.com might provide all of that. The subdomain is http://yoursite.250free.com. You can just as easily add a dot.tk.

They do have ads. I do think there are better hosts, but that is a quick one. You must have a site on it.

They give you 100 megs of storage, 3 GB bandwidth per month, FTP access, an easy upload system (though using an FTP client is far better), a MySQL database... lots of goodies!

Or you could try asking sam fisher for hosting (on GPtheatre.co.uk...)

Well, I'm still on quite a bit, but it doesn't matter much, since gannon locked me out of the control panel for that stuff (which is understandable, since I would technically be able to get his credit card information that way)

Or even better: Run your own server! It's what I do. My server has dual Pentium II 266-mhz processors with 256mb ram and an 8.7gb scsi hard drive. It runs Windows 2000 Server nicely, and I'd recommend it.

Advantages:
1. Fast upload (right over lan)
2. Custom settings
3. Your own choice of server software (IIS vs Apache)
4. No cost to you (if you have the parts lying around already)

Cons:
1. Download speed of people visiting your site are limited by your plan's upload speeds
2. Some ISPs block it
3. You are responsible for upkeep (If you use IIS, make sure you keep it patched so you don't get the Code Red worm like I did)
