Introduction
I have recently completed a new theme that we can use (actually, it is a conversion of a theme I found at another forum) called BlackSoul. I actually use this theme at most forums, and it seems to me the best complement to a dark windows/linux theme. The reason for me doing this was that the default theme is kind of lacking, and it does not match the them I have for my most used forums, and as such it is a nuisance to view this forum (
Requirements
- Firefox. To download firefox, click here.
- Stylish Extension. To download, click here.
Instructions
1. If you have not yet installed Firefox, install it.
2. Install the Stylish Extension if you have not already by going to that website or by draggin the extension onto the window. Restart Firefox.
3. Navigate to the default Benheck forum page. Click here to do so.
4. You will notice a little page with a paintbrush on it in the corner of your browser window. If you click on it that new icon, a menu will pop-up. Please choose "Find Styles for this Url...".
NOTE
A new webpage will open up from userstyles.org. It is a repository for Stylish CSS customizations. This page specifically pertains to the Benheck forums.
5. There should be a couple user themes for the Forum, and for the purposes of this article, you should click on "BlackSoul for the Benheck Forums." This will take you to the page for that theme.
6. You can install it if you like by clicking on the "Install" button. If it does not seem appealing, return to the page before this and choose another skin. Install your preferred skin.
7. Go back to the window/tab that had the Benheck forum open. You should now have the forums skinned. YAY.
8. To complete this skin, I had to Adblock a few pictures from the default skin. They are called "http://benheck.com/phpBB/templates/subS ... llpic1.gif" and "http://benheck.com/phpBB/templates/subS ... llpic2.gif". Just add them to your adblock preferences and all shall be as it should be. If you don't wish to do so, then you do not have to. For now, they should be adblocked but perhaps future versions of my css files will skin it themselves and you can unadblock them.
If you ever get tired of the skin, you can just disable it via the Stylish menu (see step 4 for the menu) by unchecking the theme. Then just reload the page and all should be normal.
UPDATES
There are now 4 skins for the Benheck forums:
- BlackSoul Version 1
- subRed Version 1
- smartBlue Version 1
- subGreen Version 1
There are 1 logo so far::
- Skyone's Blue Themed Logo
Certain aspects of the skins will not be identical to the real skin, but I have endeavored to make it very close. If there are any color corrections I can make, let me know.
I am currently looking to add other themes and other possible changes to the Benheck forums. If you find a theme you want me to add from some other forum, link me to the forum or the css file and I will hop to it. I also hope to update every theme with image support next weekend, so don't worry if a theme makes the images stick out like a sore thumb.
It has been said that this approach is too much work and that the moderators could just add the skins, which is a lot less work on our part. If they do, fine. I would also like them to install [urlhttp://www.phpbbhacks.com/download/566]this[/url] minor hack, which would also be nice.
