Help me FAST!

Post by Sword_Gun »

Okay heres the deal, I downloaded and installed Americas Army right, and I had 18 gigs left on my harddrive before I downloaded and installed, after I downloaded and installed I had 15 gigs, I didnt like the game, and I wanted to get my space back (I tried uninstalling I got like half the space back, that didnt help), So i did system restore to 5 days ago.

So then I do that, my computer starts up, and says i now have 12 Gigs free in my HD (Meaning when I did the system restore the game reinstalled and downloaded), Then I got mad, and tried system restore 2 more times, now I only have 6 Gigs left!

America's Army is EATING my Space upon every restore.

I dont know what to do... I could Reformat, But
Im running Wireless internet (Im on a Laptop so i ave a Card sticking out,)
If I reformat will I lose those drivers for the card, and lose all my Internet setup on this computer? (Meaning I'll have to spend 4 more hours setting up the internet?)

What could I try?

would defragmenting Clean up any space?

Should I contact Americas Army and tell them My problem?

I dunno...

My dads gonna kill me, I need some help here.

download it, run it, completely safe, completely efficient.

If you havent used a cleaning program before, prepare to be amazed.

Thats all i can think of off of the top of my head.

And system restore has never done anything for me.

Edit #1

Next on the agenda, try browsing your program files and deleting the entire folder. I dont know if it tries to back up its files every time you restore, but Im thinking something is and thats why it keeps eating space.

Edit #2

Oh and you cant do defrag unless you have a certain amount of space left on your hard drive, it will go then just stop after like 2 minutes. I think its like 7% of empty space is what you need

Create a restore point for now, then just go back if it sucks, then go back to that restore point.
I'm the man, if you don't think so, you're wrong.

I've never had good luck with System Restore.

1. Check the C:\Programs\ *whatever* folder for leftover America's Army stuff. First rename the folder to one letter off its original, and make XP boot floppies. Reboot, and if everything still works trash the folder. (This just makes sure Windows still isn't using any DLLs that may be in the folder. You can never be too careful! :P)

2. Download the free trial copy of Your Uninstaller 2006 and try to see if it removes the remains of the game. You can use the program for a fixed time, but after that you're not allowed to run the demo again (unless you find the file or registry entry it makes when you install it...)

3. Run Disk Cleanup to purge temporary data and other rubbish. It won't harm anything because it came with the OS.

4. Empty the recycle bin and move its slider down to 2 or 3 percent of the hard drive. (The norm is 10% I think) If you have an 80 gig drive, I doubt you regularly throw away 8 gig files. I'm not sure if this has any effect at all, but it seems to...

5. Spyware/virus scans

6. Defragment.

All those restore points are eating up space too, you know. :P

If I create a restore point now, then go to febuary and back... The Americas army may eat my space.

How do I make windows run from Floppy?
I dont have a Floppy drive, im on a Laptop with a 30 gig HD.

and how do I move the slider down? I cant even find the menu.

Go to My Computer,right-click your hard drive, click Disk Cleanup and then hit the second tab in that box. At the bottom it will let you delete all your restore points up to the latest one. The first time I did that, I got 5gb freed up.

Do what marshallh said, there must be temporary files from the system restore and by doing this, you will gain all the memory back.

EDIT: Whoops  I'm glad it worked for you.
