ipod disk access damage

i have a 5g 60gb ipod and i want to take my music from it and put it onto my new computer. i plan to just drag it accross from explorer, but im worried about damage it might cause.

i heard that excessive running of the ipods HD causes it to heat up and possibly burn out, as it was not deisgned for constant running. ive found that just from unplaoding a large number of songs in a row causes noticable heat buildup.

should i be worried about transferring 40ish gb worth of music?

I wouldn't worry about it. I haven't seen any adverse effects on my friend's 60GB iPod yet and he does it all the time

It's really not an issue, just don't do it for say 50,000 hours of constant access time... Most current 3.5 inch (desktop) drives have a rating of at least 500,000 hours (usually more). The 1.8 inch drives don't have as long, but they've got plenty of hours, I've booted off mine quite a few times for a few hours each time. I think you'll be fine!
