Hidden iPod Diagnostics menu

Post by NES_fanatic »

I just ofund this cool little thing and didn't know if other people knew about it. There's a secret system menu for checking out how your iPod runs and looking at other, um, stuff. You access is by holding center+menu until the iPod resets. When you see the apple onscreen, hold rewind+center for a second. When done correctly you get:

Code: Select all

Ipod Diagnostics
{the date your iPod was "comissioned"}
----------------------------------------------
>Memory
 IO
 Power
 Status
 DIAG VER
 Reset
 Autotest
Some of the menus have submenus and such. Some of the things you can do with this menu are scan the HDD (though this takes awhile and heats up the iPod a bit). You can also check what activity is going on with the Ipod's connection to a USB or Firewire port. You may also check to make sure the buttons work, the LCD functions properly..... this menu is probably a test thing to make sure an iPod works before it's sent out.

Yep, comes in handy if you have to fix someones iPod...a friend of mine's debug menu showed it hit a temp. of over 150F, I advised them not to leave it on their dash anymore :P
