bragging is fun

Post by gamemasterAS »

Well im bragging here but you can to. I know theres something you want to brag about. Heres mine

Today i made a bridge ( for class ) out of nine straws, 6 ruber bands, a peice of paper, a index card, 3 popsicle sticks, 2 small peices of scotch tape, 2 paper clips , and a peice of duck tape.

The cool thing about this is we totaly beat the other team and beat the school record by x5 on how many pennies we could make this bridge hold .

My groups bridge held all the pennies and what ever else we could find ( binders, books, pencil bags ETC ) .........in the end my teacher estimated the thing held about 5000 pennies.

Sorry if my post is spam, but people really have to stop blogging.

In science class we're trying to make DC electricity with motors and stuff.

I brought in 3 old equipment fans (standard 80mm size) and was trying to use one to blow air on another. The analog meter the school has didn't detect anything. I found out why at home. I hooked up my digital meter, set it to 1v DC, and blew the fan with the air compressor. It was spinning roughly twice as fast as it was designed to go, and I could only get roughly .03 volts out of it.

SO I took the fans back, threw in a power supply from an old Apple SCSI hard drive enclosure, and made the JunkVacâ„¢! I stacked the 3 fans together, cut a hole in the box, and... well it would be easier to show you in a diagram!

<img src="http://img75.imageshack.us/img75/2710/junkvac5vx.gif">

Tell me if it's too wide. (I'm using 1280x1024)

Basically I cut a hole in the top of the box and duct taped a stack of 3 fans on top of it. The duct is made out of a file folder, and it's there to keep the fans from blowing the litter everywhere. The hose is made of a paper towel tube, but it is rigid and therefore you have to hold the entire assembly to use the vacumn. The filter is actually a fabric softener sheet! I washed out all the softener stuff, dried it out, and it makes a great filter. (Initially I used a Kleenex, but it restricted airflow too much.)

Believe it or not, it works pretty well. It sucks up paper clips, bottle caps, dirt, dust, tacks, etc... I'm going to bring it home at the end of the year and rebuild it with a better box, more fans, and a beefier power supply. (the fans use roughly 300ma each, and I'm only using a 1a power supply...)

The science project wasn't a total loss; I managed to get 7v by turning an Erector set motor! (And it was only designed for 3-6v!)

Something I'll brag about:
Today I brought a tape recorder to school to make a test tape with my band Chucklehead, I'll host it somewhere so y'all can listen and criticize.
The songs we play should be:
Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (I play the trumpet part with my friend Chris)
With a Little Help From my Friends (I sing harmonics, so you won't hear lots of me)
Goodbye My Friend (Song we wrote, I play trumpet with Chris again.)

I hope it tapes well.
