Gamer2's day is not going well

Post by gamer2 »

I have had a bad day today
here is a list of what happened to me in just the time ive been awake
-My bus driver decided to switch his route so i was late for the bus
-the Ocarina i was making in art class, that i put so much time and energy into making EXPLODED in the kiln during its glaze fire
-I got stuck in the toilet stall when the door jamed, AGAIN!
-Lastly, My laptop computer that i got for free, died today :-(

The computer refuses to boot windows (it shows the word compaq then goes to a black screen), so im back on my Mule computer.

Is thier anyway to fix it, or did it just give out?

you could pull the HDD out and hook it up to a working PC... i'm near positive that laptop (2.5") HDD's can hookup to a pc

Just get an adapter for the hard drive. They use standard IDE/ATA, just like desktop hard drives. The adapter is usually just a board with a couple sets of pins, one for the hard drive and one for the cable. Then you connect its molex connector to the power supply, make sure the jumper settings are OK, and fire it up.

Or you could get an external USB enclosure for it...

Go to http://www.bootdisk.com and download the custom 98 boot disk with no ramdrive. Make the boot disk, insert it into the laptop and turn it on. If it boots into DOS, it's a software problem. If it just sits there, it's a hardware problem.

by the sounds of it, your laptops hard drive is bad. Not an awful fix, but your chances of recovery are reduced.

Worst comes to worst (and that data would have to be REAL important) try http://www.drivesavers.com/ They're expensive as hell, so make sure what you need is worth it if you consider them...
