I want to start learning how to mod consoles. Where is a good place to start learning basics and then work my way up to performing mods like most of the people on this site do? I posted on the sega forums because I want the genesis to be my first project eventually.
thanks for the help

Check out the book. If you don't want to buy it, check your library. Libraries are super rad.
Learn to solder well. Try building a regular controller for your favorite system into a joystick. Or make your own Xbox USB adapter. Or try the Super Fist PSX mod when I finish writing it up. Controllers are a really good place to start, and you'll probably mod one anyway if you portablize.
You'll also need to beef up your Dremel skills. Get your Dremel out and just start carving, cutting, polishing, and cleaning stuff. Make shapes, engrave stuff. Get a steady hand. It'll build your confidence.
Then, um, move into modding your favorite console. Cram it into a Game Gear (Heck, anything will fit into a Game Gear!) or something, build your own box or even buy one of Ben's Kits and make your life easy. Enjoy it.
