Coulpe of questions about my radica.

1st off.

I've decided against wiring up a cart slot, I think that the skill level required is just a bit ahead of my skill level.

I took a horrible picture (below), but my screen actually looks great. It was one of those zenith screens from best buy.

1)Do I need the black cylinder thing that is part of the audio / Video wire connected to the radica?

2)I'm able to get sound, but only when the little headphone component is plugged in. Is there a way for me to uplug (white plug under the right speaker in the picture) this headphone jack & still get sound from my speakers.

3)I'm thinking of splitting the controller, can anyone offer me advice on the best way to do it?

4) There is a metal contraption (in between speakers) that I think is what connects into the base of the unit (not shown) so that it can mount onto the xbox, can this metal thing be removed? It currently has only a red & black wire still attatched to it.

After this is onto the hard part, building a decent case! I think I'm going to use the method from the book of engraving plastic & aluminum.

1. if you're talking about what i think you are, no

2. i had that same problem with my verge so i just removed it and connected the 3 headphone pins to get sound

3. that's a simple controller so it should be similar to the bottom pic for this N64 controller splitting diagram (ignore the joystick)

4. you can get rid of that, all you really need for the screen is the actually LCD/PCB and speakers

Hi, I have another question about my radica project. How difficult would it be to wire it up so that the screen & power were also turned off/on by the radica on/off switch and how could I do that? Thanks.

If they all require the same voltage, you can just attach the pin of the switch holding the voltage (off-on) to the screen... Hard to explain, would you like a diagram?

How much voltage does everything require? Radicas take 6v, how about the screen?

Nice portable you got there (so far

). Just a note, controller rewiring can be a HEINOUS task if you're gonna splice the actual board and are gonna resolder it back with wires. I did that a couple of months ago, just splitting the thing, but fell confounded on how to rewire it seeing the teeny traces. So about yesterday I sat down and actually worked on it, and after 5 hrs got it after lemon juice and flux times after (with Pepsi in my mouth in between). I HIGHLY recommend you taking a broken controller board and wire from there. What I mean by that is by scratching off green PCB and finding copper traces on both controller board and broken controller board. Then solder the traces together with wire. Like, the d-pad section of the broken board, wire the traces to said ground and command traces on the working board, and place where you wish...waaaay better than wiring each trace backtogether, good luck.

Take a look at the picture in the top of the post, those traces seem as wide as highways compared to some of the other ones I've seen. That is one of the reasons I'm going to split the controller.

Find 5V on the screen board and use that to power the Radica. There are pinouts in the screen forum. You can use one on/off switch for both that way.

Sorry I can't make a diagram right now...

Well, first off, you need a 7.2v battery. Plug that into the PSOne screen directly, and buy a LM7805 voltage regulator. Put 7.2v through the 7805 and the output will be 5v, going to the Radica.

Actually this is my 1st time trying something like this, it was harder than it originally looked, I sure hope it works when I get it hooked back up.
