psone on batteries issue

ive been working on my psonep and i got it all to run on batteries...but i am using cheapo batteries and shortly after startup the screen gets all distorted and it shuts down.

is this to do with the batteries?

What's the battery's voltage?

1.5v and i am using 5...btw they are AA

Hmm, the PSOne's voltage requirement is 7.5v, and you're using 5x1.5v=7.5v. Chances are that the voltage drops below 7.5v causing distortion. Try using the power supply on it, their probably be no distortion. You may need to get another AA battery, and get a voltage regulator to 7.5v.

Test it out with the power supply and tell me if you get distortion.

ok i tried the adaptor....it worked...i think i have a 7808 laying around...i might give that a go.

I've never battery powered a PSOne/PSX, so I'm not 100% sure if 8v will fry the board. Probably not, considering the PSOne screen allows 8v. Give it a shot, and if it doesn't work, shut it off ASAP.

PSOne runs 100% from a 7805. It is set at 7.5v to match the screen, I believe. Because it didn't work from normal input, but I bypassed to the 7805 and it worked. So go for it.

Oh, knowing that, then you can put anywhere from 7.2v-25v/32v onto it. Best bet is to buy an 8.4v battery.

i tried 9v and the psone didnt boot...i might go try it on 5v.

Did you try a 9v Battery? Usually those don't have enough mAh to power anything.
