You get people who call themselves "gamers", but the only game they've ever played is the new Madden or the occasional Halo. These video game "fads" have come and gone before, and as soon as this one leaves, the hardcore gamers (like myself) will take control of the market once again, as we did in the SNES "golden ages". Companies like Nintendo and Square-Enix will profit big time, whereas EA will crumble. So it really distills down to what games are better: Square or Nintendo?
So if I buy a PS3 and Madden, I'm a fanboy, but if I buy the Wii and emulate older games, I'm hardcore?

Logic is a bit flawed, bud.
Too bad you're not competent to understand my logic without twisting it. Oh, I forgot; you're too impulsive to think things through before you start typing! This is NOT what I implied, and you know it. I referred to the SNES as the "golden age" because it is defined as this; it wasn't plagued with fanboyism like today. You can certainly play Madden and not be a fanboy; but if all you play is Madden (or Halo, God of War, you know; the games EVERYONE plays because they are just "following the crowd") then yes, you are a fanboy. Not twisted logic, just saying one must be devoted. You'd understand if you've ever beaten some good, story-driven RPGs and come away with a deeper understanding of something.

So I can't play all those games only because I like them? Without being a fanboy? Idiot.

He's talking about if your gaming is independant, of influenced by the current gaming fads. And quit sinking to insulting people just because you can't return a logical argument.

You know what? If you can't converse with anyone without calling them a dumbass or an idiot, why don't you just leave. If brings down the intelligence level of yourself and all who are around you. Not to mention, less people are liking you every time you insult them.

Look I'll settle this right now.

Fanboy, the basic definition is that the person holds to one console, company, or genre of game. If you have only a PS2, and you think the XBox and GameCube are no good at all, your a fanboy. You play nothing but Tom Clancy or games of that type, youre a fanboy. Get? Good!

As for hardcore gamers, that been warped so much now that we have retards like those on G4 that it's not easy to say who is a hardcore gamer without having to resort to asking them if they played any 8bit or 16bit games, or have played some RPGs. Before the boom of fad driven gaming.

You go and buy a PS3 and play Madden, no problem. But as CronoTriggerfan said if you shun all other consoles and play only sports games, then you are a fanboy.

P.S. If you have to explain something explain the whole thing. And don't jump to conclusions.

YEAH! That's what I plan to do, wait until Kingdom Hearts 3 comes out, then buy the PS3, hopefully by then it will be very low priced...

Ahhh, how I love a good intellectual discussion with a little bit of flaming thrown in for taste!

I must say that I don't think the rank of a game console means much. Saying that the PS2 'won' the console war, followed by Xbox and GCN battling for second, doesn't really mean much. In the end, all three systems survived, and all three systems ended up with a decent number of good games.

As things stand now, Microsoft has superior financial support and Sony boasts the best technology (and the largest market share from the previous two generations). Nintendo appears to be the weakest financially and technologically, but I tend to agree with others here that the Wii will do relatively well. Nintendo's weapon of choice is innovation. Innovation is both very inexpensive and powerful when used correctly. And lets face it; first-party Nintendo titles tend to be both numerous and fun, for all ages!

My forecast: the PS3 will hold the largest market share. The Wii has a very good chance of pulling ahead of the 360 in sales and market share, because the Wii may actually have some - you know- LAUNCH TITLES WORTH BUYING! -ahem- As far as I see it, the Xbox 360 is an expensive brick. The system has a few more games now, but nothing blockbuster. As for the portable market, Nintendo's hold will become a little shakey and the PSP will close the gap, but the Sony handheld will not overtake Nintendo. I also predict that the next-gen gameboy (remember, the DS isn't the actual successor of the GBA :P ) will appear midway through this console cycle, fortifying Nintendo's hold on that market and holding the PSP at bay a little longer.

As someone relatively neutral, I think these next few years are going to be quite exciting!

Well spoken. No matter what happens, these next few years are going to be incredibly exciting what with all the new consoles and innovations. I'm especially looking forward to this year's E3...in less than a week!

Watch the flaming guys!

My 2 cents is the Wii doesn't have a catch to beat the Xbox 360. Everyone I know in RL either wants a 360, has one, or is waiting for the PS3. The Wii? They just laugh.

As for hardcore gamers, yes, what makes a person this? I do a lot of hardcore mods, but I buy MAYBE 2 games a year. Strangely I probably play less videogames that almost everyone I know (except for Dale, the PW cowriter, who doesn't play games)

I have yet to play a 360 title that makes me reach for my wallet. Oblivion is cool, but not totally my scene. Plus the PC version with a good card makes the 360 look like Pong. Well, maybe NES.

It's pretty sad that no one is interested in the Wii around your place. I've talked to at least 50 people I know (from 8-50 years old) and they either say they want a PS3 or Wii. I'd say 70% Wii, 15% PS3, 5% none. Xbox 360 is horribley losing. I know only one person who has it.

Obviously they must be your friends for sharing same interests, no? Why does it surprise you that YOUR friends (who are somewhat like you) all want a Wii?
