Presenting: The NamCade v1

Hi you guys! I decided to create a mini arcade cabinet out of some old wood, a REALLY OLD television, and a Jakks Pacific Namco 5-in-1. The games included are Rally-X, Pac-Man, Dig Dug, Bosconian, Galaxian. I started the painting, but am finishing it tomorrow. Ready for pictures? Oh ya, you have no choice.


Here it is, in beautiful glory. Standing 2.5 feet tall, 1.5 feet wide and 3 feet deep.

You know, that actually looks pretty neat. Normally, when I think arcade, I think of stand up machines, but your Namco box looks like a fun bit. Good show.

Thanks! I actually have a MAME full-size cabinet in the garage, but I wanted to be able to wake up in my room, relax, sit back and play some Pac-Man.

I recommend a project like this for anyone who doesn't want to deal with a big cabinet.

Micro cabinets are nothing new. They've been around ever since right after the big ones got popular. They have a funky name, something like "cocktail cabinet" or something because they were the kind you'd see on a bar table.

Looks pretty good. Though really I think if you were able to get an AC-DC converter in there to run the joystick it would be a little more professional. Also I've noticed you used partical board. Even though that thing is likely not going near water or any thing humid it would be best to primer it and then do all your painting of the game icons on it.

Last thing is really here for the dialup users (poor bastards), we like to have any image that is over 400x400 pixals put into a url link. That way the page can load within a timely manner for them.

Ok, fixed the first post.

I'm planning on putting a primer, and AC-DC converter, and an internal power supply, but for right now, a just played Dig Dug for an hour straight.

Yeah I have to admitt I thought the same thing... then I thought it was fiberboard. Finally I realized it was paritcal board. Either my eyes are about ready to fall out, or that camera isn't that great. I'm leaning towards the former, I think.

It's all particle board, but the arcade control panel is made out of thin MDF, just used what was lying around.

Once again thanks for the comments, it's going to be finished 100% by Saturday when I have time to paint it.

Looks good! But at first, I thought the same thing.

The zoomed in pics look good though!

I give it 1 thumb up, probably two after/if you paint it to make it look less "cardboardy".

Also, if you wanted and knew how to handle the extremley high voltages you could take the CRT tube out of the casing and just stick it in there. It would probably look a lot better then having the white plastic out there.

That's just my $0.02, but it looks good so far!

And no one said you had to listen to me anyways lol

Thanks, iam. Did you guys read the top of the first post stating it was WOOD?

I guess the color looks a bit cardboardish, but in person it looks nothing like cardboard, mainly because of the grain and thickness of the wood.
