N64 update!

Post by jeroen »

A bad one but an update. I rewired the cartridge slot on my new n64. Only the breaker flipped so i'm going to check for shorts and try again sometime soon. I'm also gonna cover every connection with duct tape to insure that none of the wires short. This was Jeroen over and out.

If you do a decent job of soldering, you shouldn't need any duct tape. Tin all your wires beforehand.

heat shrink is your friend. Go to an electrical supply company and ask for some. It's a rubber-like tube that shrinks when it gets hot. Just put a piece of it on the wire before you solder it, then slide it over the connection and heat it up. It's a real pain in the butt to try to get into small spots to wrap tape around a connection. Just a suggestion
What I have shown you is reality. What you remember, that is the illusion.

what I usually do is just solder it on, test the connection, and then put some hot glue over the pins....Always works fine, and it allows me to move the cart. slot a lot and not worry about the pins breaking off :).
Without games my life would have no meaning.
Well, I guess it would, but it would be a lot less fun!!!!!!!

Sounds like a good idea to me!

Duct tape though... not such a good idea. It'll just be really messy and hard to work with.

just make sure it works first, and move it just a little bit, to make sure there aren't any extremely loose connections...once the hot glue is over the pins, you're pretty much stuck with the way it's wired :P.

Ya, hot glue works wonders! Oh, and don't forget to prep your leads. Plenty of people just use the "glob it on" method, and end up with bad/loose connections. A word of caution.

Good luck,

Tin your wires, too, and make sure that it's "new" solder when tinning them...solder that's already been used (like some dropped on the table...) has had it's rosing core melted already, making it harder to get the solder to stick.
