Emulation n00b needs some help!!!

Post by CronoTriggerfan »

First, let me tell you all that I have NEVER used emulation in my life. I was all morally against it or whatever, then I realized that there were some pretty sweet SNES games that were never released in the US, so I thought, "Well, what's wrong with emulation if the game was never released here? It's kinda THEIR fault, making us emulate." So I figured, what the hell, I'm going for it.
At first, I was going to get a GP2X, but then I came across this: http://www.tototek.com/
Go to PRODUCTS on the side bar, and then the second product down from there. That's what I want to use, since it'll run on real SNES hardware. So here come the questions:

1. What do I need besides the stuff in that kit?
2. Where do you guys get your games? (I need Terranigma, Star Ocean, Tales of Symphonia, and Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past standard!)
3. What program do you use to run the games?

Any other random stuff that would be able to help me is appreciated. I need the games and the program preferrably free, seeing as the flash cart is setting me back quite a bit.

Thanks,
CTFan

Careful, you may not notice but you are essentially asking for commerical roms. PM me.
The SNES emulator I use is Snes9x, www.snes9x.com . It works well for me.

Snes9x works for me too, complete with savestates and free Game Genie/Action Replay Pro.

Do you mean Tales of Phantasia? I though Tales of Symphonia was only on GC? Anyway, I've used ZSNES for a long time for games you cant find in the US. It's always worked well, and even has multiplayer support.
What I have shown you is reality. What you remember, that is the illusion.

Plus it has solid online play:D

Just google for SNES roms and you should find a site after a bit of digging through some crummy ones. PM if you want a reliable(yet it uses a register and points system) site.
SNESp - 100%
Protable X - 15% - I need money :(

As for an emulator, I use ZSnes. As for Roms, if your talking about PAL COmmercial games, I'll have to close this thread. You're not, are you?

I really have no clue what I'm talking about. What are PAL commercial roms, and what's so bad about them?

You're asking to download copies of games you should buy, bad. Unless you're talking about getting the rom of the original cartridge, don't touch the subject.

And ZSNES pwnzorizes!

IE: They're real games that were sold commericially. Even if they are japanese or where ever the hell they were sold. You're infringing on piracy laws and that's grounds for locked topic (oh yeah, and also arrest...)

Also, Yes ZSnes does! :)

Nah, I want to take my copy of Terranigma (PAL) and back it up onto that thingy at tototek.com. Sorry if I sounded like I was doing something illegal. And if I back up a PAL cart, will it be in PAL format on the flash cart?

European Super Famicom carts (and controllers, why the controllers?) are Europe-specific. They employ a Euro-lockout chip in the cart which can be circumvented using a Game Genie because Game Genies are all-powerful.

So you're telling me that by using a game genie, I can play my PAL copy of Terranigma on my NTSC SNES? If this is so, I just 'freakin crapped myself! YESSS!!! Because then I don't have to emulate anything.

The Game Genie should have no problem defeating that lockout chip.

If you don't have a Game Genie, and you don't know where you can get one locally, PM me.
