heat sink questions

ok i got my n64 open without frying it

but now i need to know if i can use its origional heat sink and chop it down a bit..... plus there will be a fan in the case!

yes, you can do that. since you have a fan, you should be able to chop it pretty small

What fan are you using?? 2 cm is a little small for a fan, are you sure it's not 4 cm?

There are plenty of 20mm fans available and at 60mA that seems to match up with the .5 CFM ones. That isn't much at all, but some airflow is usually a good deal better than none at all. I've got a 30mm 4.9CFM fan that I plan to use in mine. At full power it draws 180mA, but it can be toned down a bit of course. If you're looking for small DC fans, Digikey's catalog (pdf warning) is probably a good place to get a general idea of what's available.

Wow, I never knew about those small fans. Last time I checked DK for fans was at least 6 months ago thoughâ€¦

Whole thing reminds me of something I saw today in the Stuff Store. While looking through the rack, I found the monster of all muffin fans (that's what I've heard computer fans called). It was about 10" square, and the label read: 230 VAC 110 WATTS. Weighed about 15 pounds too. I was tempted to get it, but the frickin' thing would take up a dryer outlet!
