Help me...

Post by Electric Rain »

You see... I want to make an Atari portable, just because they're cheap to make, and I know I have a good shot at building the smallest one ever, but I just can't bring myself to do it... SNES and even NES classics are awesome, yeah... but the Atari is just... too classic. :( I don't think I'd really ever play it, because it's just not sophisticated enough for me. I need you guys to try to talk me into it. What games are even worth the time and money? :?

The reason I make portables, is to relive the classics, on the road! If you've never played an atari, or just don't like it, don't make one unless you're selling it! Sorry for talking you... out of it.

I've played the Atari plenty of times, and I like many of the games. I just don't know if I like them enough to make a portable just to play them...

Well if you feel there isn't enough interest for you to build it, then don't. The key reason I want one is to play Pitfall on the go, and maybe some other games I haven't played in over a decade. Really no one is forcing you to make one, unless you're going to sell it, but that's not the point.

Just do the Composite and 4" mods and make a battery pack for your Atari. Then add AV inputs to either a current portable or your next one. You could probably make a new case for the Atari, with controller ports, cart slot, and all switches. (Just use a project box. You could even put the batteries inside!) There you go. A semi-convenient Atari box you can use to play games once in a while.

You bring up a good point. Pitfall would be a big reason to build one...

I know; I want to make one to see how small I can make it. But... that's not really a good enough reason... I don't think... (is it?)

Making it isn't the problem. (Besides, if I'm gonna make one I'm totally gonna deck it out. :P ) The problem is finding a use for it, you know?

One question, though... if I made a PCB that's smaller than gannon's, would you guys buy it from me? :)

It's a possiblity, but smaller then Gannon's? His already rivals the Flashback 2 for size.

Gannon's not selling, he's just had pictures of the prototype. I'm not sure if he's been able to confirm that the board works, last I remember reading he was looking to get the 3 main chips for the Atari. If you really want to know PM/email Gannon and ask.
