Finally - success!

It's 12:06 AM, the semester's almost over (it's April 28, and I just have one week left - gotta love college), and I've FINALLY gotten an lcd screen to work perfectly. I'm currently working on building a memory card reader/lcd screen picture frame as a birthday gift for my girlfriend, and just to test things out I hooked up the memory card reader up to a hip gear screen, and it works! I've personally gone through a psone screen, an intec screen (for gamecube), and up until now I thought I had broken this hip gear screen as well. I haven't had much success with lcd screens... until now! (It's kinda sad that my first success was with a non-portable project...

) I'm curious - how many screens have you guys successfully used compared to ones you zapped/fried/ruined/exploded?

BTW, it's actually called the SanDisk "Digital Photo Viewer" and it hooks up to your tv using composite video, making it waaaay easy to hook up to whatever http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0006J ... e&n=172282

Great job! Your girlfriend must be one lucky gal, having a brave guy like you daring enough to keep picking up that soldering iron screen after screen after screen after screen.....well, you get the picture

! As for number of screens I've killed....NONE!!!

Ha ha, actually I went through those screens on different portable projects - I just recently started this particular project. I think I would be depressed if I went through three screens in a row on this little thing!

Okay, double posting time! I was thinking about this whole deal, and I'm planning on using a psone screen for the finished project. What would be easiest would be is if I could just use the adapter to power the digital photo viewer and hook the psone screen to it. Thing is, I'm getting a consistent 15 volts from the adapter! (even though it says 12 volts on the adapter itself... all lies!) Is there any spot on the psone screen where I could put in anything over 7.5 volts safely? I know it's been discussed that the maximum input for the psone screen is ~9 volts (and that's pushing it). What do you guys suggest for safely dropping the voltage from 15 v to ~7.5?

your gonna need a 7808 to lower that voltage or its gonna fry

Well here's some wicked awesome news - it turns out that the SanDisk Digital Photo Viewer can actually run off of the same ~7.5 volts that the psone screen needs! This means that all I have to do is use the psone adapter for both of them! And here I was all set to go calling around town seeing if anybody had a spare 7808... I certainly wasn't going to buy one online since all I lacked for this project was that last little piece... Anyhoo, the takeaway message for all of you is that this project is extremely easy: connect ground for the two, send video in to the psone, and use the psone adapter for powering the viewer and screen! Seriously guys - it would make a great gift for someone...
