After doing a system restore on my computer (I messed up a driver), the computer denied me access to my documents, yes a pop-up literally says "you cannot open My documents, access is denies. What can I do to fix this problem

restart in safe mode. (im pretty sure you can only do this in safe mode). log on as admin. right click on the folder, and a "security" option should be there that wasnt before. you can control acess to the folder. (only in safe mode). you gotta add the account you want to be able to acess it to the list. or something.
or myabe its something else. worth a try though.

Re: More Computer Problems
I was about to type what timmeh said but hes already done it! If its XP Home it will be in either sharing/security or security. I dont remember which.Joes2Silly wrote:After doing a system restore on my computer (I messed up a driver), the computer denied me access to my documents, yes a pop-up literally says "you cannot open My documents, access is denies. In XP Pro a safemode restart is not required. Right click the containing folder and go to the security tab. Change the owner to yourself. There is a 'change owner to current user' button or something like that. I had the same problem a few years ago so I had to contact a very polite MS Rep named aaron.

I am loged in as admin, it still wont open, and I cant find a driver CD (not one of the problems I need help with) Update: I got My Documents to open but now the folders in it wont open
PS I know it is a problem with file sharing but it wont let me make my folders in my documents private (thats how I got my documents to open)

First reformate the hard drive and then install Linux.Your computer will run a lot better.
If you really want to fix the problem. What you need to do is log in as the Admin and change the permission access for you're account on *account name* My Documents. Likely you some how lost the read access to the folder.
