Includes but not limited to: SNES, Genesis, Sega CD, PlayStation 1, Nintendo 64, Dreamcast, Game Gear and I guess the Virtual Boy.

Genesis 3 portable question

Post by sweetsuzuki »

I'm pretty much sick of messing around with my PSoneP, and I'm ready to start a new system. I purchased a Genesis 3 and am wondering if there are any major issues with a 6100 ma battery (7.2 volts) and a PS1 screen hooking up to the Genesis. I am planning on using a CD case just like my PSoneP, and it will be vertically aligned. From what I've read, this battery and screen and Genesis should provide about 6 hours of playtime. Is this accurate, cuz that is really good.

Well you might get close to 6 hours. I don't know the current draw of the Genesis, but the PSone (unmodded) is about 750mA an hour. I can guess that the Genesis3 would take something from 250-350mA an hour. Again I'm guessing here (using my knowledge of the SNES), so really you should test it you're self and find out what the exact draw rate is.

Kewl. also, how wide is the sega 6-button controller. It looks really small in the pic on Ebay. I used to have one, but I sold it and don't remember.

Will the PS1 screen display the Genesis w/ no problems? I hear a lot of talk about composite and stuff that I am clueless about.

Thanks.

actually you should get closer to 12 hours :) i found out the current ratings for gensis 3 and it's 140-200ma. if you LED mod the screen, the whole thing should take around 500ma. unmodded screen would cut the play time in half though.
here's the genesis power requirments wiki page
psones screens work perfectly with genesis and the 6 button controller is about the size of an N64 controller without the memory car slot or the 3 handles sticking out of the bottom, but more banana shaped so it's comfortable. it's small :)

OK thanks. I'm guessing you just run wires to the appropriate spots from the screen to the Genesis, and same for power. simple.

EDIT: have switched this project to a NES. I'm tired of ppl outbidding me in the last minute, so I got a BUY IT NOW noac for $9.
