Sure the Macbook Pro can run Windows XP through boot camp. But I don't know who here wants to spend the $2000 for it.

As far as computers go, get the one that has the most RAM and if you're into buring (big time) DVD+-RW/ DL drive, and really you want XP Pro (Home sucks!). Get that and you'll be a hell of a lot better off.

My list of things that are MOST important:

1) RAM: You will need a lot of this to make XP work right, and make your programs work better. I reccomend at least 1 GB of ram, tho, 2 GB would be even better!

2) Processor: Well, your Laptop will be pretty slow with a crappy one of these. Intel is for Word and that stuff, get AMD for gaming (Intel will work fine tho) For a laptop i reccomend 2.0 Ghz or better. For Desktops, 3.2 Ghz or better, some can be overclocked upto and exceeding 4 Ghz!

3) Hard-Drive: You may think these arn't important, but they are! Have you ever seen the same storage capacity HDD, but one higher priced. It might be brand-name, but theres another reason! The RPM. I reccommend 5400 or better (7200 will be great) for laptops. For desktops get 720 RPM or higher (Yes, they make them uptp 10000 RPM now!) Also, as for storage, get atleast 60-80 GB in a laptop, and as high as you want in a desktop!

Aside from these are:

OS: Windows, Mac, Linux

GFX Card: Nvidia, ATI

Sound Card: Soundblaster, etc.

PS: For a Gaming PC, i would have added GFX card reccomendations, but since you're getting a laptop for School, you don't need to worry about it (Even tho adding one won't hurt)

I'm telling you, get a mac.

You may go "blah blah blah macs suck"

But you haven't said why!

I'd rather have the fast machine with dazzling good looks and both operating stystems (other then a 20gb less hd, its the same thing basically, in fact the video card is better too)

the reason i hate macs is because of the one button to click, was forced to use them at school, over priced, hardrive sucks, all look the same, been using windows as main operating system for 9 years, they suck, they suck, screens aren't good, speakers are terrible, they suck. they only good thing is the software that comes with it, but for $1000 less, i could get a machine that is just as good, and did i mention... THEY SUCK  if i could i would burn them all own to the ground starting with the piece of crap i- books, but i do like my apple i-pod

out of those i would go for the toshiba, but if you can hold off until november vista will completely up the minimum specs and it would be a wise decision
Look just because Dell bought Alienware doesn't mean that they will make a drastic change and do a Dell style look on their computers. Be a little more open minded.
