Ok, the thing is that noobs come and spam. People that have been here for a while know how to behave themselves. I personally don't think I have spammed (too much). I don't think I have posted many threads in F42, and only one of them has gotten locked (the introduction to Portable Street). Most of my post count has been from adding on to other threads, or threads in the console forums.

I have some guides on posting here, mods can add on or delete if they wish:

Is the thread going to help you? For example, what is asking if you can drink a gallon of milk going to help you acomphish?

Does it come up on Google?

Does it help the community as a whole?

Do you already know the answer? Don't post just for the hell of it.

As for the mods, I think they are doing a great job. Luc has sometimes scared and even insulted me, but you just have to go on with your life. It's not a big deal, and the mods need to do their job to keep a clean forum.

Its a little late, but maybe next year 4/20 can be Spam Awareness day.
I'd imagine right now you wish you were a cuttlefish...

I dunno, a lot of threads don't 'help' the community. You always see threads like: Custm Gaming PC, or My Home Built OoT - Which shouldn't change.

yeah, things you've made or something obviously aren't spam...

I dunno, I suppose some people just don't have an automatic spam-meter, or sensor, or whatever :P. You know, the one that tells you if a thread is spammy or not ;).
Without games my life would have no meaning.
Well, I guess it would, but it would be a lot less fun!!!!!!!

I think a lot of the worst threads are already locked by mods on a regular basis, so we really don't have too much of a problem. Deleting locked threads after, say, 24 hours would be the next logical step. In fact, a code-savvy mod could probably make locked threads self-destruct after the set timeframe automatically.

We've spent years here. We've earned the right to spam, if we wanted to. And no, it's not. It's celebrating an acheivment. You're more spam than this. Leave...
You, sir, have spent a little more than a year here. So unless it is more than one year (you cannot even try to round up, because it is against most rounding rules), you cannot say years.

Nice syntactical error there. Although I am sure my posts have many more.

I'm trying to remember when we did that "Not that there's anything wrong with that!" Thing....

Anyway, Yes, I was reffering to the others, but I should hope I've done my fair share here to earn SOME kind of privilege. Maybe not...I'm hoping to start getting the locked thread out of here and Bic and I are planning to revamp the rules thread once again. Sometime or another, after all the rules versions, there will be one that is just right. I don't think we've quite got it, though.

This summer the mod system will be taking a deep look at policy and procedure. Most of the fix-ups will lie (sadly) where I'm stationed. Not a problem, though. Just gotta do it...

As for spamming, only you guys can fix that. I can take care of the remains, but I can't stop it. I trust you guys, though. I trust you all to read the posts in this thread (especially gamey's) and see how much the administration cares about this place. I trust that you'll find it in your hearts to simply work harder on how you post (grammar and spelling) and what you post (not spam). It's not hard, and I know you'll do it, so I thank you in advance.

some stuff in F42 is spam but some stuff is good, like that sorta religious/philosophy debate that sprung up a while ago, which was relativly spam and flame free

not spamming just seems to be common sense to me, although if i find something that really makes me laugh ill post if i think other people will appriciate it

likewise some of the slightly spammy threads do make me chuckle from time to time

You guys need to stop worrying. At least this is not a Null forum (DCEmuers will know what I mean, for all others: http://dcemulation.com/phpBB/viewforum.php?f=54). Imagine purging the forum every few weeks.

What you need to do is just make sure questions are answered and such. The main reason you have so much "spam" is that the people posting here are talking about things that are supposudly new but have been on the internet for the longest time. I will admit that there are quite a few good links among those, but when the same thing is repeated over and over, then it is bordering onto spam. Perhaps a sticky of all this "awesome" stuff should be made in order to cut down on the waste, that way something funny can be posted in a topic, added to the sticky, and the original topic deleted.

That gets rid of maybe 25% of the posts in here. The other stuff is mainly just random mods and people asking what kind of portable they should make, as well as questions.

You cannot really expect serious conversation on a forum that mainly caters to 10-15 year olds who just discovered the internet. :)

No, it's meant for discussion about things that do not fit into the other categories. :P

It's not meant for "guess what the cat hacked up this morning!" or "you broke my life!" or "OMG P0RTAABOLZ ROXXOR the BIG!!!1111!11one!1!!2@3tilde@65243seven!", which is concidered spam. It's also not for blogging or advertisements, but we've already covered that subject. :)
