Need help making my FIRST YTMND...with GIMP

I have a picture, in which I want to cut out and put on a background...how do I cut it out? Also, if I want to make it moveable...I put the background on one layer, then the character on another...to make a gif. Also, what if the background changes in the next scene...using GIMP.

Give me it, and I'll cut it. There should be like a magic wand tool.

Thanks for the help (especially last time, thanks to you the RETRO festival was a bit 'better' than the other crappy displays of the Three Stooges

We had somekind of retro film festival at school. And I was making a face enlargment and display about the hit 1979 film: 'The warriors'. I was the only 'unique' one whereas everyone picked Three Stooges or Wizard of Oz, thanks for the enlargement again
