the usb thingy is only for powering it, it dosent actually interface with the usb port in any way, so it shouldnt make the dundun sound.

or at least on the programmer i have. you have to plug it into the parallel port, right?

Yes. I've got the Aladdin Family Programmer. It won't respond to the software I'm using for it.

When I flash the chip, does the chip need to be connected to the board? And does the box have to be on? Are there any speciel directions, or do you just connect everything and run the program?

this is what you have, right?

if so, you need to take the chip out of the xbox, stick it on this thing, then plug this thing into the usb port AND the parallel port on your PC.

yeah... what exactly were you trying to do before? lol.

did you solder it right in there, or use the pin header? it should be easy to take out if you used the pin header.

Well, I had it connected to the xbox while I was trying flash it. Btw, I emailed the guy from where I got it and he said he could send me a new programmer. I use the pin heads.

ok so wait... how were you trying to flash it while it was connected to the xbox?

and since you werent trying to do it right, you dont know that your programmer is broken. so take the chip out of the xbox, then stick it onto the pin header on the programmer, plug the programmer into your comptuer (the serial port AND the usb port on your computer) and then try to program it.

some aladdin chips actually have an option to flash it in the xbox, but it dosent use the programmer. if you like hold the power button for 5 seconds or something it supposedly will let you flash it with a bios image on a DVD. i had an aladdin chip however, and this never worked for me. i just used my programmer.

haha. thats how i got into this in the first place. me and my freind bought 10 modchips off the internet and planned to make a business of it.

the broken xboxes and sales just balanced out in the end, i (i bought him out) broke even at the end of it all.

i still have 3 aladdins left...

eh. i paid 13 bucks each for them, so id charge you at least that plus shipping. and they arent actually real aladdins, they are cheap rip-offs (like i said, the in-box programming part didnt work).

you are much better off just getting this

its the same site i got mine from, and its a much more advanced chip for a lower price. (it even has support for an LCD screen!!!) (XBMC can use the LCD screen to display the current track {i think}, so you dont need to have your tv on. its pretty sweet).
