Lid Sensor Switch problems

I have no clue how it is supposed to work in Ben's PSoneP. I looked at the picture in his book and stuff but I still don't understand it. Can someone help or give me more pictures or something?

on my project I just installed a on/off switch. that way I can use my backups with a backup disk. should not be too hard to integrate one into ben's project.
I feel the need...
