I dont get it.
Ok, I understand Easter is the celebration of the ressurection of "you know who". Where did they get Collored Eggs and Chocolate bunnies from The Crucifiction and resurecton?
I think i know why; You dont want kids to bite the head off a chocolate "You Know Who".
Do i have a point, Notice i didnt have any Religous names in this topic, lets try to keep it that way.

It was an German traditon. Oh, and please don't be afraid to say Jesus, he was a person, not a "you know who" ("you know who", makes him sound horrible).gamer2 wrote:Where did they get Collored Eggs and Chocolate bunnies

If we're going to talk religion, hear this:
The other day at church since Easter is coming up, we heard the whole story about Jesus being crucified and such, but I heard a part where apparently a woman walked up to Jesus and washed his head in "nard ointment".
Tell me there's another definition than what I know for nard.

You have to understand that Pagen religions get into Christianity. So they have a bunch of things assocciated with one relious event that don't make scenes. Kind of like how does a pine tree fit in with Christas? It's from the Germans that was held over from Roman's (I believe).

I didn't see the wikipedia thing, but my guess is that there is something like this:
Jesus is resurrected -> life after death
life after death -> new life
new life -> bunnies (you know, since they reproduce quickly)
new life -> eggs (the source of life)

This is a bit different, though... it's not exactly something that can cause a huge flamewar, and that is the main reason for the rule. I think that Ben once mentioned that it's not too awful as long as things stay civil

Christians believe Jesus died on a cross, and use the tree as a symbol of the cross.
Some of the Christian traditions are based on pagan practices, for example, the date of Christmas, December 25, was in early times believed to be the winter solstice, or shortest day of the year, so pagans would have a festival for the sun gods, hoping the sun would come out again. Eventually, as Christianity grew, this festival "morphed" into the date of the celebration of Christmas.

Man I'd never thought of it that way that is pretty funny.
Anyways... It was Mary of Bethany (a follower of Jesus, not his Mother Mary) who annointed Jesus' feet with nard oil. Nard (translated spikenard or muskroot) was a flowering plant that grew in the East, making it very expensive in Jesus' time.
