Which is a better deal?

Post by blackbox_dev »

For batteries:

A pack of 8 batteries for $20 CAD with the following specs:

- 2100 mAH
- Ni-MH rechargable
- AA size
- Made by Energizer

Or a pack of 8 batteries for $30 CAD with the following specs:

- 2500 mAH
- Ni-MH rechargable
- AA size
- Made by a company that I have never heard of whose name I have forgotten

Both of these are at my local Wall-Mart :P
If I use either of these choices I'm going to use them to power either my N64p or my PSp.

Well I'm more kind of wondering if the extra $10 is worth it compared to the extra playing time I'd get.

So with an N64p or PSp, is 400mAH extra for $10 worth it? How much extra playing time assuming that the screen is LED modded and everything.

400 mAh would probably bring you 20 minutes.

depends.

you also cant really take the rating on the battery very literally. they are basically exaggerated like anything else (blank DVDs, hard drives come to mind). anyways. they have to test them to come up with these numbers, and i ASSURE you, that the test does not invovle running a portable n64 off of them. at the humongous current draw we are typically dealing with, the batteries are going to preform well under their rated number.

that being said, assuming the ones with a claimed higer capacity actually have a higer actual capacity, i would go with them. 10 bucks? you can make that in two hours. go mow someones lawn or something. lol

ps - wow. thats actually a really good deal either way. i remember a day when these things were more expensive...

pps - hey, why dont you try to find those 15 minute rechargeable batteries, they sound pretty cool

$0.00952380952380952381/mAh
$0.012/mAh

Well, the price ratio shows that the first is better by ~$0.025/mAh :P

Yeah, I figured that 10 bucks isn't a big difference considering the final cost of building a portable. As for the 15 min recharables, I really don't care how long it takes to charge.

Not too big of a difference then.

And that's 20 more mins to play Golden Eye with! I think that I'll go with the $30 ones. Thanks guys for helping me decide! :P

Really? Maybe that has something to do with the DC/DC converter... If I was to use all 8 batteries and get 9.6v instead of 6 batteries and get 7.2v do you think it would make a difference?

Or are the Energizer batteries just crap, can somebody confirm this?

The Energizer AAs are fairly good batteries - I have some - but they are just not made to handle a 1+amp discharge rate.
Use some larger batteries (C, sub-C) and you should be fine.

Jeez, I don't think that C batteries could fit in my case! OK, I guess I'll go with the other brand. Its at least a better bet then the Energizers, and $20 is not as much of a loss as $30 if it turns out their just as crappy as well.
