Anyone done this mod?

Includes but not limited to: SNES, Genesis, Sega CD, PlayStation 1, Nintendo 64, Dreamcast, Game Gear and I guess the Virtual Boy.

Anyone done this mod?

Post by CronoTriggerfan »

I want to mod my SNES and SNESp to play PAL and NTSC format games (mostly Terranigma ). I found a mod to do so at gamesx.com, and I was wondering if anyone else has done it and if it worked. Also, the article states that newer games don't exactly like this mod. Any guesses on games that might be uncompatible with the mod?

Here it is: http://www.gamesx.com/importmod/sneslockout.htm

That seems like a simple enough mod.

Instead of removing Pin 4, just add a switch so you can toggle between NTSC and NTSC/PAL.

Let me know how it turns out, I might do this too!

Personally, I'd go for a 3 pronged switch

Like this:

Code: Select all

                   _
                __| |__
               |_______|
                |   |   |
                /\  /\  /\
        To  Ground  ||  ||
              To Pin 4  ||
                        To Where Pin 4 is supposed to go

A 3 prong switch is what you'll need, not a 2 prong switch. Think about it. With a 2 prong switch, you can either have both on, or one on. In this case you need one or the other on.

What you need is a SPDT switch.

I'm not a great fan of gamesx guides as I'm a bit too inexperienced in electronics. However, using the guide at http://www.mmmonkey.co.uk/console/ninte ... ches-1.htm I sucessfully modded my American SNES.

Hope this helps

The orgainal guide will let you play PAL games on NTSC machine. If you have a PAL machine that you want to play NTSC on use this http://www.mmmonkey.co.uk/console/ninte ... ches-1.htm

I think the only game that dont work is mario rpg.

So what's the difference between clipping Pin 4 and adding 2 switches and a resistor?
