Yes it is nice to be able to put your projects INSIDE something isn't it? You know, to hold everything together so it doesn't flop around? Discuss the techniques here!

Bought some bondo materials...I think

Post by minkster »

I went to Lowes today and bought this stuff called Marine Goop, Marine Epoxy, and JB Weld. Would the Goop stuff be sufficient for being used as a type of bondo? I hope I got the right materials.

The marine goop is a waterproof contact cement, which won't work as a replacement for bondo. The latter two are both epoxy adhesives, and you would need a pretty large amount of either to use them as a filler or to build up a case. Lowes should definitely carry bondo polyester putty; it's usually in a large beige can (for the general purpose stuff), and costs about $10 for the size you would need.

Ah, your right I just looked on the online website...dang I feel stupid. I need the bondo as part of my vacuum forming process... after I finish vacuum forming I plan on cutting out holes for the screen and controls and bondo-ing and sanding it to make a nice looking case.

I'm still on the beginning stages though, I need to finish a clay molding...which I did, but I ran out of clay because it needs to be thicker in order for the case to have some depth to it and fit all the necessary parts in the case.

the bondo should have a label on it or something. and the standard bondo people use on there cars comes in a red can

and make sure you have a mask when your sanding it, crap goes everywhere and you dont want that crap in your lungs
