I'll hitch a ride on your thread (no, not hi-jack!) because I was about ready to make my own on the same topic.
- Does it have a USB port? Is it USB 2.0?
- Does it have wireless networking capabilities? If not, could I use a USB card (assuming it has USB) and use the Linux drivers for it on the GPX?
- What Linux kernel does it run?
- I read somewhere (I forget where) that it is incapable of displaying 3D graphics. I'm pretty sure this is a lie, but I want to make sure.
I'm trying to decide if I should sell my PSP and all my games to get one. (if I do I could put it in the trading post for 'ya guys, but that won't be for a while even if I do).

I'd imagine right now you wish you were a cuttlefish...

I was always wondering this but what actually is the benefit of using a card reader as opposed to dragging files manually onto the card via usb?Triton wrote:cardreaders are pretty cheap too i got mine for 10$ and its digital innovations (sakar) as are all of my card readers and never ahd a problem, works great

To the best of my understanding, you need to immediately format the SD card with FAT32, and the GP2X itself cannot do this correctly. Furthermore, many computers have trouble recognizing the GP2X SD slot as a removable device, making a card reader necessary.
Just about all of the current problems can be fixed with firmware updates. It is just a matter of waiting for Gamepark Holdings to get done with them.
The GP2X is not meant to work as a USB host, so without extensive modifications (there is indeed a host chip in the SOC) you cannot expect to run things like wireless cards or USB hard drives.
The GP2X has a 2D accelerator onboard, but 3D rendering is possible through software. Some people seem to be having a heap of luck with a port of yeti3D. I'd love to get into 3D game design myself, but I just don't know enough. Many people agree that 3D rendering coded specifically for the GP2X could match the quality of N64 graphics. I'm certain that the detail levels could actually go beyond that.
In the end, I find that I'd much rather pay 189 for a completely open system than for a locked-tight system like the PSP. I don't enjoy having to hack the hell out of something like the PSP just to run my own software, and I don't need to worry about that with my GP2X. Also, if I ever get the know-how to program my own GP2X games, I can sell them without any of the legal issues involved with other consoles.
