Yup. Inverters rock. It ends up saving you money in the long run since you don't have to buy all thos hokey battery chargers and power supply units for every new laptop you get, or new version of the GBA or DS they come out with.

Inverters are good for playing video games, etc. in your car, but if you have a laptop or computer that you will be using in there permanently, I'd stray away from it and just use a DCDC because of things like voltage spikes when accelerating or braking.

I just have a built in 115v Jack in our car, also inputs for the screen.

My parents don't let me use the lighter port in a car because they don't know crap about technology and whine about how I'll ruin the car somehow. The ignorance makes me want to put another hole in my "anger punch wall".

you wouldnt be able to run a toaster. they need like 1500 watts. mine is 300. some are more, some are less. the 1500 watt ones are really freaking expensive.

technically you still need a car battery .
But what's the point really... what do you want in the car you have in the house... TV? Too big... Blender? I have no clue why you'd want that...
They are only good for some things, most of which you can have a car adapter for. So it's good I'd say, but not revolutionary.
semi-off topic question- what's the difference in power between AC and DC (I know what they do, alternate and direct)

That kind of sucks, I was considering that. My Laptop sucks juice like no tomarrow so if an inverter can't help I'd be able to get only 2-4 hours of use. Well maybe HP has an inverter that will work. Or I could try using my old Toshiba, that thing uses only 10.8v and about an amp an hour. So that might work.

I also wish the cigirett lighter for my car was not stuck in the socket. But if I really need to I could just hack the car and wire the inverter directly to the battery.

Yeah those things rock and I keep meaning to get one, but I always say "Oh, I better hold out until I have the money for a 500 or 600 or maybe even 800 watt model so I can run almost anything (other than toasters )." But then I get the money and well then EB games is right next to walmart and um... I can't actually play the inverter now can I? So I always figure "I'll just get a new GBA game and then I won't need the inverter will I, yeah that makes sense... and i'll have money left over to go over to radioshack (which also happens to be right behind the local walmart, really no joke) and buy more switches and project box yeah...." or something like that.
