Video Game Arena sticky idea!!! Mods and admins look please!

Post by CronoTriggerfan »

We should have a countdown of the top games ever! I really don't know how it would work, but the mods could think it up. It could be stickied for the time the event is going on, then un-stickified when it's all wrapped up, if you want. I don't know how it would be organized, but here are my ideas:
1. By system
2. By genere
3. Top 100
4. Add. to top 100: We should have the top 100, then the best of each genere, and then the top game of all time.
5. It should be organized by mods and admins, w/input from us normies (again, really don't know how it would be worked out right now, so feel free to post ideas!)
6. I'll gladly help out whoever takes it up.

Okay, that's pretty much it. I know this has been done before by various sites, mags, etc., but I still think it would be cool to see some games not many people would recommend (Terranigma, Shenmue, etc.) especially since most of us are classic junkies  . Anyone have any ideas on rules and such? Post comments, please!

CTfan

EDIT: I was just thinking, maybe we could have a weekly update, posting new games by intervals of 10 or so, doing a write-up on each game. Then when the finalists for each one come, we could jazz it up a little more!

Somehow I don't think that would work. There is no "best game ever".
Everybody has their own opinion on the subject.

For example, I think sega (except for sonic games) sucks. They stopped making systems because they sucked.

Now the person right under me will say something like "I lvoe sega! j00 4r3 4 70741 n00b y0! Nin73nd0 5uck5!"

Which is why it siomply wouldn't work.

But my favourite game ever would definitely be Zelda:OoT

That's why I'm saying we should have rules, like no fanboy-ism. Also, with such a large countdown, we can represent everyone's favorite party easily. Or even better, if we did it by genere, then most would be bound to see their game/series in there, somewhere. Thanks for addressing some problems, I really didn't consider that; however, I think it's something we can get around.

EDIT: Also, maybe you got me wrong; by "best game ever", I don't mean that it's your personal fav; moreso, I mean more around "Most influential game" or such. Take Super Mario Bros. for example. You may be a die hard Sega fan and hate Nintendo with a passion, but you can't deny that without Mario, the video game industry could very well still be in the post-Atari slump. Make sense?

I suppose.

Perhaps organizing by system would be best. It'd definitely cut down on lots of arguements.

Ya, that would be best. We could nullify the Sonic vs. Mario debate right there.

Well that's a two person thread right there.

Anywho, I think this would be a pretty neat sticky. Though you can't expect mods to do it all for you. It would have to be more user created.

Ya, true. We should have the mods in on it, though. We need more people to see this thread is the problem.

That's great, but do you have any input on how to do this thing? We'll take favorites soon enough, but right now we need to know how to pull it off. We also need some mods or admins to check this out ASAP!

NES:
Megaman 2, 4, Super mario bros 1, 2 , 3, Back to the future, Ice hockey, Blaster master, Maniac mansion, MOTHER, Dr mario, punchout, Crash n the boys, river city randsom, California games

SNES:
DKC 2,3, Super mario worlds, EARTHBOUND, Chrono triggger, Final fantasy 3 (6), Super mario RPG, F zero, Sunset riders,Megaman x's, Ghosts and goblins, Toy story, Mario paint, Punchout, Turtles in time, Super metroid

N64: Goldeneye, Zeldas, vigilante 8, Smash, F zero, Mario partys

Agh, there are a ton of great games! Can't list em' all.

I guess you should nominate games, and each game would have tallys for how many people liked the game also.

Just give everybody a set number of "votes" (say 10) and let them vote for 10 different games or one game 10 times, or somewhere in between. It would be pretty easy to keep track of.

Ya, good idea. Maybe we can even implant a phpBB mod that throws symbols under our avatar depending on which games we like most.

I say go for it.
