Hi Everybody!
I recently purchased a broken PS2, as I am not very wealthy, and was hoping to be able to fix it so that I would be able to get a cheap PS2.
It runs fine, but does not seem to be able to detect DVDs or CDs at all. Doesn't even display DRE. Acts as if there is nothing in the drive.
Taking it completely apart (haha, I have it running in a cardboard box), I noticed that while the drive spins and the laser lights up, the laser does not move at all. It stays put there.
Opening up the drive, I notice that the laser doesn't really have any gears or worm gears that control its movement.
Is it supposed to be like this? Or perhaps is this the reason why it can't read anything?
Thanks so much everyone!

i had this problem awile back. Just make sure that the ribbon cables are in the female end COMPLETEY. Then make sure the small cable on the laser arm is in properly. If this doesnt work, then maybe get a new laser arm off ebay.
