I would say just get a PS2 slim, reason being is that the controller ports are soldered directly to the motherboard. Further you can get a used PS2 slim at Gamestop for about $120 (maybe less).

if you get a slim ps2, do you have to get the super-leet screen to make it truly portable?

Do you mean expensive? If so, no. PSone screens are the most widely used screen and they can be as cheap as $30.

PS: You spelled 1337 wrong.

No, I DIDN'T spell "leet" wrong. I use this spelling rather than the l33t speak which I think is a pain in the neck.

I meant if I managed to "color-mod" a PSone screen, would it work on a PStwo portable?

Don't use l33t if you're not willing to spell it correctly. If you don't approve of l33t, you shouldn't use it. Use another word if you must.

What do you mean "color-mod"? If you want, you CAN paint it black to match, but there's nothing to change to make it work. If you're talking about the LED mod, that is best done on the PSone screen. The screen is completely compatible with the PStwo, so all you need to do is solder the wires between them. Or just plug the AV board into it.

i just had a thought, could i use a 38cm lcd tv as screen and make it in to a laptop :P the only problem is they would pull so much power from the battery i probly would get less than 30 minutes playing time
i could also include a laptop harddrive and use it to run 'backups', keyboard & mouse, wireless internet adapter
i could possiblely be the portable that has the shortest battery life of them all

and yes i know i'm the worst speller in the world
