SFC to SNES?

Includes but not limited to: SNES, Genesis, Sega CD, PlayStation 1, Nintendo 64, Dreamcast, Game Gear and I guess the Virtual Boy.

SFC to SNES?

Post by CronoTriggerfan »

Can Super Famicom games be played on the SNES? I vaguely remember hearing this somewhere, but I wanted to be sure. Also, if I order Tales of Phantasia, it's in Japanese, right? Anyone have
a translation guide?

Thanks! But I will mostly be playing this on my portable SNES. Are the tabs still on that? I really can't see the pic, so could someone post a pic of just a SNES cart connector and where I need to cut?

Dude,

First, all Japanese games WILL run on an American SNES because the frequency standard is the same (NTSC).

Second, I wouldn't order Tales of Phantasia, because you won't be able to read a darn thing.

Trust me. I have the rom with DeJap, and it still is not very easy to read. The original was ALL Japanese. Unless you've taken a lot of kanji, then the best way to play it is on a rom with DeJap (Translator).

Oh, that bad? I can speak Japanese, but I don't know a lick of kanji. I think I'll just stick with SoM. Thanks!

Chrono fan

1) Go HERE to snip the tabs off http://www.gamesx.com/importmod/snescon.htm
(It's much easier if you have the 4.5mm toolbit - trust me, just spend ~$10 for the set on eBay. Melted pens SUCK.)

2) Find your Japanese intensive games here
http://www.dejap.com/

3) Follow the instructions here to assemble your own translated/unreleased carts
http://snesdev.romhack.de/
(Even play StarFox 2 on real hardware - not the emulated crap!)

You'll need the 3.8mm and 4.5mm bits, a soldering iron, an EPROM programmer AND EPROMs IF you want to do what I've shown you. With those, you'll be able to suck a lot more out of the SNES.

I'm not really sure what dialect is on Jap SNES carts, I just figured kanji was the most common dialect of japanese. Excuse me for my ignorance.

If you can read japanese, then give it a try.

Oh, I didn't mean to confuse you! You were right, they are in kanji; I was just saying I can speak the language, not read it. Sorry.

if your playing them on your portable then there should be no problem, as the gray tabs are part of the consoles casing, so it should fit perfectly fine on your portable SNES.
SNESp - 100%
Protable X - 15% - I need money :(
