Boot Camp!

Though I hate Windows I have to say that is cool. I'd be able to run DirectX games on something as cheap and basic as a Mac Mini. I'd have to check this out further.

God, this makes me want to replace my trusty powerbook g4 (titanium). I just don't have the money.

Sweet! Now we don't have to chose one way or the other! (Though there was always Basilisk II, Bochs, Qemu, and Virtual PC...)

Makes me feel almost bad about building a PC this past January. (almost.)

Once this is more mature technology (a year or two probably) I'll buy a Mini (or depending on funds, a Mac tower.) I've always liked Apple's hardware, and to have this kind of flexibility and compatibility in a $500 machine is pretty sweet. Now you can use all 3 OSes: OSX, Windows, AND Linux, all on the same machine!

Wouldn't linux have to be using rosetta though?

Wouldn't linux have to be using rosetta though?

I don't see why you couldn't build an x86 version of Linux for one of the new Macs and have it work just fine. Then again, I haven't looked into it and there could be issues involved.

I'm just about willing to bet at this point that there will be some x86 mac version of Linux (probably Fedora coming first) within the next 2 weeks. They do have PPC versions out there, I even have FC4 on my iBook (I never use it, though

)

My friend and I were talking, and we were saying it would be an awesome selling point to have one computer run all 3 major OSs, basically natively (no emulation or virtual this and that)

As for booting Linux, they've had news of Ubuntu on a flash drive booting on the x86 iMac. So really their not far off, and really I'll bet that as Boot Camp is OSS based it will have info on how to get linux running.

I will agree with Spongebuell that a computer that runs all three OSs with no speed reduction would be awsome. I would be the first time Windows and Mac work on the same system since the 68xxx CPU days.

I had also just thought of this. There had been rumors that Apple might drop OSX and just be a hardware company like Dell. Well combine this with the Digg article that Apple software will be avalible on Windows (2007). I think it's more likely Apple will be taking a good 20% (or more) market share soon. Cheers to alternitives to Micrsoft.

Ooo sounds like it might be time to get a mac, the major reason I didn't want one is none of my 3D programs or games will run on a mac. Tho mind you i'll wait for the next OS and the official release.
