Hi Guys.

I have recently been inspired to make a Megadrive (genesis) portable (mainly because sega seem to refuse to release sonic mega collection for the psp or ds.

I am going to make a few different models, First of all the Genesis on a chip based tv game with a screen and battery pack. I won't solder in the cart slot yet though. My Mk2 if you will, will have a cart slot but i want to get a hang of this homemade Portable malarky first.

Can i expect to get a decent amount of battery life from a GOAC + PS1 screen?(4xAA powered)

Mk1 will be as small as possible, landscape too, utilising the pre-installed games.

You sound like a good potential portabalizer! Always nice to see somebody who comes along without asking noobish/spammy questions!

Anyways, did you say 4 AA? Don't think you have enough voltage there to power the PSOne screen. Your probably going to need at least six AA to do that. Try to get some nice Ni-MH batteries with at least 1500-2000mAH. That would get you some killer battery life for a GOAC even without an unmodded screen! Even more with a LED modded screen!

BTW, LED modding is replacing the CCFL tube in a LCD screen and replacing them with some low power white LEDs.

Thanks. Power could be an issue then but i am sure i will think of something. I have the book on order so will be doing a lot of reading up on things first.

Seems like i can get the basic raw materials for about Â£40 ($65ish) so it won't break the bank.

Need to buy a soldering iron!
