I need some info:

Would 2AA's power two LED's (each on 1.5 req.) for say two hours, without a resistor.

Also, is positive the shorter pin, or longer pin?

the ANODE is the shorter pin

In 'dumb people' terms that I like to use myself, positive is the long lead and negative is the short. My dad told me those terms and now they always stick with me.

I try to use the terms anode and cathode however though.

You guys didn't answer all of his question.

No, an LED will not run without a resistor unless you use a 3v lithium coin cell. Any battery bigger than that will fry an LED.

Edit: Once you have a resistor between the 2 AA's and the 2 LED's, It will run for something like 100+ hours. (THis is a mathematical approximation)
