Laser tag

Is there any mechanism that reacts to a laser pointer beam? I know that laser tag places use infrared beams, but then put a laser with it, so the laser has nothing to do with getting tagged; It's just for visual. But that would be cool to make your own laser tag. I can't find anything through research so that would be cool if someone knew.

Here's a site. It's just a DIY laser tag system, looks pretty cool though. As for the laser beam sensor itself, all I can think of is a photodiode, but that would limit you to playing at night, since daylight would trigger it also. Scitoys has a page that might help.

I'd like to see someone make one of those lazer tag mablobs

if they do,i'll make one also

and isn't the NES zapper IR, with the laser so i don't think it'd be affected by sunlight ?_?

Wha? The NES zapper just takes a picture of what you are pointing it at then sends that to the NES, which matches the picture with the section on the screen. It doesn't transmit anything.

It doesn't "take a picture", and it isn't IR, it's a photodiode. It senses if you hit something by sensing the white flash that shootable objects make when you pull the trigger. If the zapper is was aimed properly the photodiode picks up the flash and registers a hit. Each object flashes white on a seperate frame, so when there are multiple objects it can tell which one you shot by what frame the flash was recieved. I ain't the NES_fanatic for nothin'. Now I'm just puzzlin how it still works in well-lit areas....
