Hmmmmm...

Post by CronoTriggerfan »

Well, my Yobo portable is moving along nicely. I have video running off wall power, so now I just need to run it off batteries. I want to run both the PSOne screen and the Yobo off the same battery, so I was thinking of desoldering the Yobo's 7805 regulator and wiring the empty lead to the corresponding spot on the PSOne 7805. Would this work? If so, what hole on the Yobo where the 7805 was would I solder to the PSOne screen? (List Yobo holes from left to right, left being 1 and right being 3. Also, count the holes from the top [brown] part of the Yobo board.)

Thanks,

Dude, just solder the normal ground from the screen to the normal ground on the Yobo and use the postive from the 7805 on the screen. That is what my skilled butt did. >_>

Be careful about your amp draw when doing that. You might want to put a heatsink on that 7805 to make sure it doesn't pop.

Oh, never thought of that. Where's the ground on the Yobo? And refresh my memory, which pin on the 7805 is the +???

All you truly need from the Yobo is the board with the cart connector on it. I have a little diagram I drew up at home for myself. After work I'll post it. Two of wires on the larger ribbon cable are +5v and Gnd that you can connect to two of the wires from the PSone's ribbon cables. So you don't even need to worry about which pins are what on the 7805 because the PSOne has wires that provide what you need.

Dang, and I was hoping for a controller port pinout too. >_< I have questions as well.
Firstly, the power and reset switches must cut something off and turn it back on, so they must have to be jumped somewhere. Where exactly would that be?

It does have the controller ports.
Anything that says P1 or P2 = player 1 and player 2.
Check my "Super Mega Cheap NOAC" thread for a NOAC controller pinout link.

Latch is the middle pin of the top row of an NOAC port.

This should show you where you can backtrace from.
The other two data signals (D3 and D4) aren't always connected, but some NOAC ports do support them.

BTW, go to NES World and check it out so that Martin doesn't rip my willy off for direct linking :P

I meant where is latch on the yobo board since there are three boards on the yobo, which you have clearly never worked with. There are three boards. The power board, which inputs audio and video and power. There is also a controller board with the two usa controller ports and the power and reset switches. I am trying to solder it all to the main board. So I want to know where the latch and data places are on the main yobo board.

Oh, right, Yobo. Well, that's even easier! Backtrace from the regular NES controller port pinout. Provided that you didn't throw out the controller board, you should be able to say "OK, pin X traces back to pin Y of the ribbon cable that goes back to the main board also at pin Y" and then you have your answer.
Don't act like such a smartass. It's not like the Yobo is a super special NOAC anyway -- you can trace back on any NOAC that uses the typical three board setup (like, for example, the ones I sold you?)
Here is your controller pinout, biotch :P
(Or, in the case that GameSX goes down as it appears to just have done, this works too.)

Well, all I'll say is that you shouldn't assume that people "clearly" don't know what you're talking about when they make a mistake. The principle was the same, I just grabbed the wrong pinout. It's generally dangerous to assume from one person's tracing that that's the way things are wired -- best to have corroboration on your own board (no telling if Yobo snuck out another revision without anyone noticing, etc.).
