9v fry a PSOne screen?

just a quick question:

will 9v fry a PSOne screen?

if it does i can change my output to 7.5v but if theres no need then it'll save me some effort

it might, it might not..........but it's really unsafe to be that high.

Pretty sure the PS1 regulators can support up to a 9v input voltage.

So the input power goes straght to the regulators? If it does, couldn't you just take them out and put a 5v battery in its place? This could be used in any system that runs off 5v regulators to make them more efficent.

No, the highest it should be is 8v.

it can go at least 8.5v, doesn't ben's ps2p give the screen 9v?

I use a 9.0Volt Li-Ion battery, same as Ben's PS2p, to power mine, and no ill-effects yet. However, that seems to be the absolute limit, people trying 9.5Volts or higher can't get the screens to work properly on it (that voltage won't cause the screen to fry instantly).

IIRC, only one of the two regulators is a 7805, so, no, you can't just bypass it and put 5Volts directly in.

im using a similar battery to bens ps2p

a portable DVD player battery at 9v

i think its Lithium, not sure

also on my psone i dont get 5v from pin 12, but i just took it from the 7805 instead so no biggie

I did it it didn't break fast I played it for like 10 min before it started to wash out on the screen...

Actually, both are 7805s. The reason you can't put 5v directly in is because some of the circuitry uses the unregulated input.

I hope my sketchy adjustable voltage regulator circuit works since i used a 9.6v nimh battery. The heatsink on the lm317t is getting hot, which I guess is a good sign. gah, I can't type right due to large, bad soldering iron. i typed this about 1/10 normal speed and my arms hurt.

well my whole reason for this topic is all purely academic now...

my battery has given up the ghost, i was barly gettin a volt out of it when it was supposed fully charged, but i ripped it apart and im gonna take a look
